Depending on the type of backyard design project, our process can very slightly, but in general our experienced landscape architects will follow the five steps described below:
Our process begins with a thorough analysis of your backyard. The things we take into consideration are:
We talk to you to find out what you want to achieve from your custom backyard landscape design. And then our landscape architect will come up with one or more conceptual designs (depending on which package you have chosen.)
When finding out what your requirements are, our landscape architect will ask you questions covering the following five main areas:
A) What activities do you want to do in your backyard?
Is it something that you mostly just want to look at, or will you spend a lot of time in your backyard?
Do you have children who need outdoor room to play?
Do you have dogs that need space to run?
Do you want a large outdoor entertainment area, or do you just need a small area to sit and relax?
Would you like a vegie patch? Do you enjoy gardening, or do you want a backyard that requires minimal maintenance?
B) What style do you like?
Do you want a very modern or a more traditional backyard?
Do you want the shapes to be angular or more curvy?
Do you want something that is busy and has a lot of detail or something simple?
How much outdoor lighting do you want?
C) Do you have a preference for materials or colours?
Do you have a preference for wood, stone, or metal?
Do you have a preference for light browns, greys or darker colours?
D) What’s your timeline?
Are you only concerned about what your backyard will look like in the short-term because you will be selling the property soon? Or are you okay with including plants that will take years to grow into their full splendour?

In addition to your backyard design requirements and the site analysis, we also take into consideration any council regulations that are applicable.
We will then produce one or more conceptual designs that we will discuss with you and modify to come up with something that you are happy with.
Once you are happy with the conceptual design, our landscape architect will produce detailed design plans. You can choose how much of the following landscape design services we provide, and to what degree of detail. If you’re after a high-end backyard design, we can do it all for you, but if you just need landscape plans for council approval, then we can just draw up the landscape plans. If the council doesn’t approve the landscape plans the first time, then we will provide you with free amendments until the plans are approved!
